Berlin’s Bierpinsel is up for sale for €3.2 million
The iconic Bierpinsel tower located on Schloßstraße, Berlins second biggest shopping street is up for sale on the website of Sotheby’s International Realty alongside a plethora of luxury real estate.
Originally constructed in the 1970’s, the three floor, Brutalist, Pop-Art Bierpinsel stands at a height of 46 metres and has been the home to various restaurants and nightclubs since it’s opening, most of which struggling to achieve long-term success.
The building has been closed since 2006 and sustained water damage in the winter of 2009 causing a dispute between it’s current owner and insurance firms regarding plans for renovation and repair. In 2010 the building was part of the street art project, “Turmkunst” which resulted in its current, iconic graffity-esque looks of which received strong media coverage. As of this year the Bierpinsel has been declared an official historical monument, raising the question of what modifications could be made by a potential buyer and whether the paintwork from Turmkunst can even be removed.
Sotheby’s describes the property as having 4 bedrooms and 4 partial bathrooms encompassing an area of 12,765 sq. feet and being predominantly gutted and ready for renovation.
