Long Island Electrical Systems

L.I.E.S Label Night @ Suicide Circus – This Week In Berlin

Smack bang in the middle of Friedrichshain, (100 meters from Warschauerstrasse train station) you will find the highly distinguished club, Suicide Circus. Sporting both an indoor and outdoor space this club offers an edgy, industrial feel whilst hosting some big big names in both the techno and house game. This Friday at Suicide Circus they kick off the month of March with a HUGE lineup of tasty electronic music.

Hailing from Brooklyn, New York, Long Island Electrical Systems or better known as L.I.E.S record label will be taking over. For those not familiar with this legendary record label, it was founded by and is also run by one of the biggest names in the game, Ron Morelli. Since the birth of L.I.E.S in 2010, Morelli possesses an uncanny knack for discovering producers and is highly respected for bringing light to some of the more obscure artists, definitely not adhering to a specific genre in regards to his label. Over time, Morelli has managed to create quite the catalogue of producers that embrace and produce all kinds of music from spaced out, dreamlike house to hard-hitting techno and experimental.

Joining this king is another rather notable name that is heavily involved with L.I.E.S, Marquis Cooper aka Svengalisghost. Introduced to vinyl at a very early age he received his first set of turntables in 8th grade, this led him to stealing disco records from his father’s collection and cutting school to prowl local record stores in Chicago. Highly inspired by the frenetic energy of Ron Hardy (a legend in the Chicago house world); this was the beginning of his determination to develop and learn the ropes within the scene. Known for his insane live sets, Coopers style can be described as both harsh and raw but inviting at the same time, abstract but dangerously funky too.

With these two cats running the show for Friday night you can expect things to get pretty crazy, this one is highly recommended and one to be remembered.

Check out this ridiculously good live mix Morelli put together for Tim Sweeney’s radio show Beats in Space just a few months ago.
