People of Unity Day
The first in Shlur’s “People Of” feature, we visited Hyde Park’s 17th annual Unity Day to enjoy the free music, cheap booze and to take a look at the broad range of people that this brilliant community day brings together.
Born out of the riots in the LS6 area in 1995, the free festival takes place every year to bring the diverse range of residents of LS6 together. You can’t help but feel a great sense of community throughout the day. From kids playing on rides and slides to young dub fanatics dancing themselves silly right up to the 7pm close time.
The highlight for us was of course the dog show. Myself I’m not a fan of woofers at all, but the relaxed atmosphere and extremely comedic commentator (think Partridge) created an event where every dog was a winner, everyone had fun and I found myself taking more pictures of dogs than I ever thought I would.
